Fireworks are about as American as it gets.

As Sunfest came to a close for another year, Peter and Amber sat on the sea wall, lit in red, white and blue; Amber in her new, yet stained hot shorts and bra, something not out of place in SoFla, and Peter snugged up tight, his arm around her waist and hand just under inside her back pocket. The gentle touch, they say.

Gulping the last of her Coors Light, a vibration sent Amber’s ass into motion. Cell phone.

“Yo.” she answered, over the blasts from above.

It was her brother – in the Navy, as far as she knew. He spoke quickly, a buzz about him, then hung up.

Wide eyed, she gazed skyward.

Red, white, and blue.

And so Britney was pissed, but in reality she is always pissed. See, she loves the finer things in life, and when the Save-a-Lot was out of Squirt soda, she blew a gasket. The fixed door of the exit was just strong enough to abruptly stop her manic storm from store, and it took two acrylics off her left hand as a “hello”.

“Whoa!”, one lady yelled.

“Serve’s you right, whore!”, the clerk shouted.

Britney just kept on moving, straight to her happy place – behind the wheel of her Camaro.

Britney groaned inside, “More glue next time Wong, you bitch!”

The officer had him waiting there, on the curb. Still. Wondering.

He was confused, and obviously so. Wearing shorts, with no shirt, and carrying your shoes while walking down a main county drag after midnight, well, that might bring some unwanted attention. Though he was indeed fearful, he never let on. Cold as ice.

Soon the officer returned from her car, handed back his papers, sending him on his way.

Peter gazed piercingly over her, then turned west, the light from a distant quickee mart shining like a disturbed north star.

There was a cold wind blowing as he stared upon his reflection.

It was discernible, yet not in the air, not on this sunny day in late April. Deep south Florida might dry out each year in spring, but a cold wind, never. It was hot by all standards. Peter had avoided every bit of notice given for the pending transaction. Time to queue up. White knuckles and all. Everyone had to do it, it was a mandatory outcome. System wide. Coming up with new ways to side step a most recent call, or skate another email had blossomed into some sort of game. A single player game.

On the water’s edge, Peter thought on evaporation and perspiration. This drought had to break soon.

Pray for rain.

Hope For Harrison – Update & Thank You

Seeing as many readers follow/know of Harrison, OS figured you would want to know the most recent updates surrounding Harrison and the family. Copied from Facebook.

Melissa and I wanted to take a minute and say thank you for your support of Harrison and our family during this journey.

In case you do not know Harrison came home with us about a month ago and we have been busy settling in to our new life and routines. He seems much happier and peaceful at home surrounded by all of the family and friends.

Since he has come home we have spent almost every weekday going to a variety of doctors from the pediatrician to chiropractic neurologist to acupuncturist and anyone else we feel may support him in healing.

These visits at first were quite challenging as we had to get used to loading all of his medical equipment, suction machine, oxygen, oximeter, cough assist, etc, not to mention learning to travel while suctioning and keeping him safe. But after a couple of weeks and learning where we are going we seem to have found a routine and made it doable.

Many of the doctors have told us that they have exhausted all of their resources and cannot offer a diagnosis at this time. Their approach is to “feed him and wait and see”. “Check back in at his first birthday and we will see where he is”.

While we understand that modern medicine cannot diagnosis every case and some things are still not known we have decided to push forward and exhaust all resources and methods that might allow Harrison to heal, grow, and develop. Which has lead us to having the chiropractic neurologists, acupuncturist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, and a few others who take the approach that the body has the ability to do amazing things we just have to give it an opportunity.

Harrison’s current condition has not changed much in the area of swallowing which requires him to have 24 hour care to protect his airway (clear his secretions so they do not block his airway and lead to respiratory failure). For the first 30 days our private insurance covered some in home nursing care for 8-12 hours a night which allowed Melissa and I to get some rest and spend time with our other son Maxwell. As of tomorrow morning we will be without any nursing care until we get approved for Medicaid which we are not sure if or when that will happen.

So the next chapter is about to begin which will require Melissa and I to take care of Harrison 24/7 along with Maxwell and all the other things life requires of a family. At this point in the journey we do not seem to be to worried about it since we know we will figure out a way to make it work not matter what it takes. It will be challenging but with our ever growing “Circle of Healing” support network we know we are in good hands.

With all of that said we want to thank you again for following and supporting Harrison’s journey. All of the love and support has been the bridge that has carried us over many of the difficult times.
